3 Ways How LASIK is Affordable

Published by Lance Kugler, MD on April 25, 2016

woman and money Many patients considering LASIK bring up the cost of the procedure, because for them – and frankly most people – it’s an investment.  But, if you’re ready to take the next step to finding a better solution for your vision, paying for it should not stand in your way. To help, here are three tips for finding ways to make LASIK affordable:

  1. Check with Your Insurance and Employer

Although most insurance companies do not cover elective eye procedures, there are a few providers who offer coverage or discounts for vision correction.  We can help you check if your insurance benefits can help cover the cost of your specific vision correction procedure. Also, find out if your employer offers Health Savings Account or Flexible Spending Account benefits.  These accounts let you save money for your procedure with pre-tax income – meaning the funds you put in those accounts don’t incur income tax, which saves you money overall.

  1. Learn About Your Financing Options

Many LASIK practices offer financing for their procedures, including Kugler Vision.  Our financing plans allow you to pay for your procedure over time with no interest when your balance is paid in full within 24 months.  This means you can have your vision correction procedure now and can start enjoying excellent vision sooner.  If you want to take advantage of a financing plan, be sure you understand all of the terms related to the amount you borrow.

  1. Talk to Your Tax Preparer

There are certain tax benefits you can take advantage of that can help – in addition to the HSA/FSA programs. Depending upon your total medical expenses for the year, you may be able to deduct some or all of the expense of your LASIK procedure from your taxes. It is a little-known fact that LASIK and other vision correction procedures are qualified medical deductions, if you meet the requirements.

Isn’t Time for LASIK?

You already know with glasses and contacts, there are ongoing costs every year.  With LASIK, you will have years and perhaps even decades without additional costs – other than your routine healthy eye exams (which likely are covered by health insurance).
