Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE) with presbyopia-correcting IOLs
Since presbyopia is caused by a hardening and thickening of the crystalline lens, it makes sense to treat presbyopia by removing the dysfunctional lens and replace it with an artificial intraocular lens (IOL). New advanced IOL technology has made this a reality.
RLE with a presbyopia-correcting IOL is similar to cataract surgery, but it is performed before the cataract has become visually significant, thus it is more of an elective surgery than is cataract surgery.
